A Week Away…Our First Road Trip…and an Armadillo named Patrick
We are the family that avoids road trips.
We live so far out into the gosh forsaken desert that ANY trip is pretty much a road trip. So, to avoid riding in a car with our children…we fly. Everywhere. This year, we decided to brave the confines of the SUV for ten hours to visit a gorgeous resort in the Texas Hill Country. And you know what? It didn’t suck.
Getting packed. And yeah…my kids are weird. They love playing with empty Coke Zero boxes. And no, I do not have a problem! That was two weeks worth of soda. Morgan enjoys stuffing paper and toys into the “mouth” of the box like it’s a monster.
We dropped Claire off at doggy jail and started the trip in high spirits. The kids were singing to Vampire Weekend in the back and J and I enjoyed looking at the landscape change from brown to errr….green and brown.
We stopped every so often to let Morgan potty on the side of the road because the kid REFUSED to do his business in fast food restaurants or gas stations. As J pointed out–his eye level at this age could be horrifying.
We made it to the resort in time for dinner and were thrilled to discover the view from our room.
We always thought that we would have to travel to Mexico or the Caribbean for a vacation like this…but it was fabulous! The restaurants specialized in “Texas Cuisine”…organic local honeys, amazing steaks, and a tequila bar!! Ole! I seriously need to revisit my diet after this…but it was worth it.
Ahhh, Patrick had it made. Morgan insisted that I gel his “hair” before going out in the evenings. He slept on luxury thread count sheets, enjoyed some fine Hill Country Cuisine…and quality time with friends out by the waterfall.
It was a great week.
