Another Day Another Trainer…this time a good one

March 3, 2011

I got my ass handed to me today.

My new trainer is a surly 51 year old body building dude that does NOT accept excuses. He briskly took my height/weight and body fat percentage and pronounced me at a normal body weight but over fat. Um yeah? 18 months with very little exercise and childbirth will certainly do that. I cringed at the numbers…recounting years of health fairs when I was on the OTHER side of the body fat machine delivering the bad news with not a little bit of smugness when my own body fat percentage hovered around 17. Today? SO NOT 17%.

I came close to throwing up several times in the 32 minutes that came after that. We started with crazy jumping moves that had me leaping on and off of a weight bench with both feet at once. My coordination stinks and it scared me. I made it without breaking my nose on the weight bench…so that was a victory. During the session, my trainer kept a running commentary on the successes and the failures of his career. I enjoyed learning that he fired those who were not motivated enough and that he seemed to really care about whether or not his people reached their goals.

We moved on to lunges across the gym carrying a body bar that I would have never lifted on my own. He stopped me twice for cheating and made me start again from the last “good one”. He allowed me to take a few sips of water when I thought I might pass out and he bullied me through more ab work than I had done in the past 5 years. He pronounced me “reasonably fit” for a beginner and said that he thought the baby weight would come off….with discipline.

HELLOOOO New Trainer. I feel like my bikini body is a mere 6 weeks away with this guy on board. Good thing, because I wasn’t getting any closer after making and devouring this over the weekend.

Ooooh… please share details of your workouts! This guy sounds like a keeper! So, did you fire the other one, or was it just chance you got this dude today? I LOVE a tough workout, so I’m very happy for you!

Awesome Jen!!! sounds like you are going to love this trainer! I have been loving having some free time on deployment to work out. The physical therapist i work with here had me in front of the aid station doing about 1 billion squats in full body armor while carrying a case of bottled water…..haha! my legs didn’t work for about 3 days after that, but i loved it πŸ™‚ Hopefully we can both keep up some good workouts over the next few weeks and be bikini ready by summer πŸ™‚
