OHHH Baby Food!

February 28, 2011

I try to make my own baby food.

Yet, like everything else in life…there are days when it doesn’t get done. We’ve run the gamut of yummy organic baby eats and Leighton will happily fill up on most of them. This weekend we found the exception. Parent’s Choice Fruit and Oatmeal (no, not organic) received a BIG thumbs down and baby stamp of disapproval.

At first, I thought my girl might just be teething. The stuff tastes fine to me. She turned her nose up at the container every time that I tried. Her distaste made us all laugh at the breakfast table and again at lunch as I plied her with a big spoonful. Leighton merely locked her mouth and let it smear all over her face. I hoped that her opinion would change if some got into her mouth….it did NOT. She made her hideous face…the one typically reserved for fresh avocado.

I tried again by sending the second container to daycare this morning. Her teacher told me that she refused to take even ONE bite. She found it odd, since the L Bug typically eats an entire jar. Maybe she’s teething? Maybe she objects to the slivers of oats added to provide texture? Who knows…

This girl knows what she likes and knows what she does not. I threw the jar out and tried a container of berries and mixed fruits. She downed it all. 100%.

My daughter. Putting the “D” in Diva yet again.

Sam has been going through a similar phase – he has decided he does not like, and will not eat his veggies if they are mixed with his oatmeal. But fresh avocado he would eat by the fistful!

Aren’t they too young for this?!

Amanda–I think our little one’s personalities are definitely emerging! I just wish that Leighton would eat avocado!
