Stroller Update

November 18, 2010

I’m loving the double BOB stroller that we chose!

I guess that folding and stowing sucks for pretty much any double….but it’s worth the hassle to be able to haul both kids at once. The independent reclining seats allow Leighton to nap while Morgan sees the world and the individual sun shades accommodate everyone’s preference as well. The stroller is super easy to push–I’ve started to jog a bit and would probably be running normally except for the fact that I live on the side of a mountain and even an easy to push stroller is insanely hard to schlep up huge hills.

Right now, I power walk up and jog down. The speed forces me to pull back on the handle a bit and I have sore triceps. I hope this will lead to some wickedly toned arms as that is just another thing to go down hill in my old age.

The only thumbs down that I have to give is that the BOB is still too wide to push through any single doorway in my house. I have to fold it to bring it inside and set the kids up in the garage or the front walk.

Here’s a photo of the our first outing. We used our Snuzzler to give Leighton a bit more support. She falls asleep almost every time that we walk. Morgan is just pretending for the camera! (and yes…he did insist on going for our walk in his jammies. He would spend his life in pajamas if we let him!)

Good to hear you love the stroller! Now what’s a snuzzler?

And here’s the deal about why I’m not a big fan of our vibe – first of all my biggest complaint is the fold and stow issue. Basically, you need a degree in stroller folding to be able to fold that baby. I have yet to take it anywhere other than our neighborhood because I can’t imagine having to take it out of the car and put it together while my 2 littles patiently wait the hour it would take me to put it together. The other issue I have is the size. The reason we didn’t get a side-by-side is because I wanted to be able to take it shopping to all the little shops in our neighborhood and knew I wouldn’t be able to fit a wide stroller through the doors. But the vibe is so long that it’s like driving a bus and it’s still extremely hard to get through any door with it (getting through the double set of doors at Starbucks is quite the spectacle). There are a few other little issues and I guess for how much it cost, I had higher expectations. But Sam and Poppy both seem to love it (Sam passes out within minutes of being in the reclined position), so we have decided to keep it for now. And Marc likes to remind me that I would find these types of issues with any double stroller. Go figure.

I think you are right–there isn’t a perfect way to ferry two kiddos at once. The strollers are either too long or too wide.

We don’t have cute little shops but I know for sure that going down an aisle in a store would be tough.

The BOB is easy to fold, but doesn’t latch closed the way my single stroller does. It falls open while you are lifting it and weighs about 30 lbs. I’ve bashed my shins and pinched a finger so far, but it is very easy to open/close.

oh! And the Snuzzler is a fuzzy cushion for newborn car seats that we’ve put in the stroller for more support and comfort.
