BAAACK in the saddle again!

August 24, 2010

Once I tell you about my first day back at the gym you will know that the title is just BS!

Today, Morgan moved up to the three year old class at his pre-school. I might have shed a tear or two seeing his nervous little face when he stepped into the “big kids” class. He looked so relieved when many of his little friends were all seated around a tiny table and shouting out greetings to each familiar face that arrived. Quickly, his hesitation disappeared when his friend Anastasia smiled at him. I gave him a hug and a kiss and my big boy entered the 3’s without a backward glance. I am always amazed by his cheerful little spirit and self confidence.

Little Miss Leighton was cheerful as well on her first day of “school”. She started at the same center for just a few hours per week to give me a bit of time to work out and run errands. I love the teachers in her class–they were all jockeying for position to hold her and love on her. She has three other adorable little girls in her class and they were all so sweet! They spend tummy time together, have little swings side by side, and some bouncy chairs for gossip time.

I called my mom on the way to the gym–knowing full well that I would have precious little time to exercise once I got there. I was scheduled to meet a friend for coffee this morning to celebrate our “freedom”. Actually, I think it was her gentle way of being with me the first day that Leighton has ever been away from me! Even if it was only for 2 hours!

My mom reassured me and kept me from crying. I made it to the gym a full 12 minutes before I was due to meet my friend! I hit the elliptical for ten minutes and then completed a one minute cool down. Ah Well….I just gave birth a few months ago. It was a good start 🙂

My friend D’Anne and I had coffee and caught up, then it was off to Target to get the school supplies that Morgan needed. I felt a lump in my throat again that my little boy needed a pencil case and watercolors. He’s growing too fast!

In other happy news, we are turning a corner on the potty training. The Mo Man only wears pull ups to sleep now. He has made 3 successful poops in the potty since the weekend and is only 2 away from his reward. We told him that he could go back to Chuck E Cheese as soon as he made 5 poops on the potty. I am so proud! His constipation had been a huge barrier to potty training. He was holding back from using the potty all week long and then he would be in terrible pain over the weekend. His doctor put him on a daily dose of miralax at our last visit and it is working wonders for convincing the little man that it’s ok to let the poop go.

To change the subject, I will leave you with a bit of Leighton love. Our girl is growing and changing every day! I love her!

BRAVO on getting back to the gym! The time doesn’t matter, it’s the re-establishment of the habit. You’ll be doing 8 miles in no time!
    Enjoy your “me time”!

Good job on your gym excursion. Leighton is such a cutie! I just love the pink clothes.
