And then there were two

June 22, 2010

I’m still working on this whole mother of two thing. I completed my second day of getting up with the little people and getting Morgan ready for school. He’s regressed a bit since his grandmothers have left–telling me that he won’t use the potty and wants a diaper. Last night he peed his pants 3 times before I gave up and put him straight into a huggies…even though he thought he would get a pull up. He told me that he was a “baby” and “needed a diaper” (something that he hears often since newborns pee/poop every five minutes!) Guess he thought that was the key to undivided attention.

At bed time, I told Morgan that he was special because he is our “big boy” and that he can do many things that Leighton can’t. We talked about using the potty, swimming in the pool, playing outside, and giving great hugs and kisses. I told him that Jeremy and I are very proud of him for all the things that make him unique and special to us. Then, my little sweetheart got out of bed and peed on the potty.

Wish that I could tell you that was the end of it…but this morning started out the same. Morgan slept with us last night after waking/crying 2x around 11pm. He is always happy to be in our bed, but not so much this morning when he saw Leighton at my side nursing. He tried to kick her and yelled “Go Away!” That took a bit of redirecting so that I could finish feeding the baby and keep him calm until we could go to the kitchen for his breakfast.

Breakfast was a chore–he kept asking for things and then not wanting them. I finally sent him to his room to think about this after a lot of screaming and drama. I know it is a hard time for the little guy! He eventually came around and ate/got ready for school.

Here’s hoping that this gets easier in a few weeks as we all adjust to our newest addition. Thankfully, Leighton is doing well and seems enamoured of her big brother. She is very alert to the sounds of his voice and he makes her happy by turning her little vibrating chair on when she’s fussy. I know that his kind and nurturing side will eventually take over if we keep working on it!

I am excited to have an infant photographer coming tomorrow to take some baby pictures. I only wish that my great blogging friends who are also photographers lived closer!

Yikes! I am getting so nervous about Poppy’s reaction to “baby brother” too! Hopefully you’ll have some advice for me by then!

So exciting about having an infant photographer! Can’t wait to see the pics!
