Getting Used to It

May 7, 2008

Each day of parenting seems to get a bit easier than the last. Morgan is getting more comfortable with us and we are really enjoying life with our son.

He wakes up happy each morning–loves to snuggle in bed and play for nearly an hour before getting up. Morgan likes to roll from pillow to pillow and laugh when we give him kisses or make faces.

Breakfast is always fun–he falls in love with a new waitress each morning!

Our morning nap is the easiest–the American TV station here has episodes of Northern Exposure each morning at ten and Morgan takes a bottle while lying on a pillow on the floor and easily falls asleep. He likes knowing we are in the same room with him…most of the time I will lie next to him until he falls asleep and then I get up to make my daily blog post.

Afternoons are the time that we try to see more of Hanoi and get a trip to the play room in. he’s very social and gets excited about seeing new people. He fights sleep the most in the afternoon–doesn’t want to miss a thing!

Last night, we met the others in our group and the couple from Australia that was on our cruise to HaLong Bay for a cocktail in the hotel bar. Morgan was in his element–smiling and laughing and charming everyone. He likes to dance when he hears music and he is usually the center of attention. We had dinner in the main restaurant and he tried some mashed potatoes. LOVED THEM. I think that the potatoes actually kept him full enough to sleep a bit better last night–he only woke once at 1:30 and then slept until 6am. This was paradise after his usual routine of waking every 2-3 hours.

We have our embassy appointment and medical clinic appointment on Thursday. We are hoping to be able to fly out of Hanoi next Tuesday if all goes well! It is amazing to think that we have made it to this point.

Daddy is skinny, mommy is skinny, Ms. Claire is skinny, and so it is only fitting that your son be skinny. Your family is perfect. Absolutely perfect! The happiness we feel for you is eclipsed only by our joy of knowing that Morgan will have a chance in life. I know he will make you both very proud. Parenthood, isn’t it wonderful? You though you knew love, but you have only just scratched the surface. Nothing is more meaningful than to experience unconditional love. How else could you explain your willingness to give up the remote control or disimpacting your child with a Q-tip and dancing the jig when he poops? Would you do that for each other? Actually, don’t answer that. Jen, holster that Q-tip. Jeremy, watch your back. 🙂 We wish you all the happiness in the world and Godspeed. Keep us posted and we will check back soon. And yes, their spitting image of one another. Love,Phuong, Mary, Marshall, and Parker. Collectively known as The Huynh’s

You guys both look like naturals. Glad to hear that everything is going well. Good luck with the embassy and final arrangements. Give that little guy a hug for us!

you can get a card in the hotel restaurant, stamped every time you eat there–pretty quickly you have enough for a dinner entree.
